Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning
Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning
Raindrop is one of Learning Object that we have created to illustrate the subject.
We can apply these principles into this LO.
Here are explanations of some specific recommendations:
• Multimedia principle – By using Scratch, we can integrate a description to illustrate the formation of the raindrop in different stages.
• Split-attention principle – The description is placed near the diagram in order to provide supportive information for the audience.
• Redundancy principle – As the formation of raindrop is too like a hamburger or parachute, we use the diagram & words to explain the formation, but the description is supportive to each other and not a repeated one.
• Modality principle – We have not integrated modality principle in this LO, as it would distract audience from different stages of the raindrop formation.
• Segmenting principle – With the green button provided in Scratch, audience can review the representation as their pace.
• Pre-training principle – A question tag opening aroused the interested of the audience about the LO that we are presenting.
• Coherence – We would like to add the sound of the rain as background, but this may distract the audiences’ attention.
• Signaling – Similes are used to ensure the audience understand the actual shape of raindrop, like hamburger, parachute.
• Principles of multimedia learning based on social cues - The verbal description is written in poetic monologue format to personalize the character of raindrop.

We think picture 4 is the best!
Here's the best visual display that we choosed:

Pros:
-the text is short and easy to read(reader friendly)
-the information is related to human(like size of the eyes, picture that showing the length of giant squid and human)
-good color presentation
-real pictures
How to improve?
-add timeline,to know about the time.
-add a paragraph about the legend of the giant squid,so it becomes more attrative!
-add "where does it live"(just like picture 2),to know more about the giant squid.
